A few compilation errors

Hello,

While trying to compile gtk+1.3.6 I get the following errors:

../../../pango/pango/pango-ot.h:25: freetype/freetype.h: No such file or
directory
In file included from gdkdrawable-x11.c:34:
../../../pango/pango/pangoxft.h:34: X11/Xft/Xft.h: No such file or
directory

Does this mean I have get freetype and XFT? If so, how do I use XFT with
xfree86 3 (I don't have XFREE4)?
If not what do I need, or should I just ignore this?
BTW, the compilation failed somehow, because I don't have "testtext" on
my system.
