Hi Brendan,
I haven't tried arabic on Pango for a while.
To use Solaris arabic fonts in Pango, we need to add "Arabic font name"
to <GNOME>/etc/pango/pangox.aliases.
Ex:
sans normal normal normal normal "....\
....\
-monotype-shayyal-medium-r-normal--*-*-*-*-*-*-iso8859-6,\
...."
Also, don't forget to run login CDE/GNOME under en_US.UTF-8 locale
because all those fonts required will be set to the font path.

] Hi folks,
] I just recently installed a snapshot of GTK on my Sparc machine.
] OS=Solaris.
] Problem is when I run the testtext program in gtk/tests there are
] certain languages that are not displaying. Arabic and Arabic to be
] specific. If I run the cursor left to right through the areas where
] there should be characters it looks as though it is trying to parse
] through them.
]
] (i.e) Thai() <- Cursor spends 4/5 secs running through the brackets
] before moving on.
]
] Another problem is if I attempt to open/save or anything else for that
] matter I get:
]
] testtext (pid:5045): GDK-ERROR **: Failed to get keymap
] aborting...
] Trace/Breakpoint Trap (core dumped)
]
] Any help on these issues will be met with severe gratitude and deep
] reverence !!!
] You have been warned.
]
] Regards,
