My guess is 3.0. It's already too late for GNOME 2.30, and 3.0 gives us
the ability to "break" things.
If one particular application doesn't work well with the instant-on
changes, we can always ask for them to fix it. Changing the behaviour
mid-way a stable release is asking for trouble.
