Just as a follow up, I've started working on this, see
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=579571
for details and am hoping the low-level bits (i.e. not the object
mapping) can land in the next GLib release.
Once the low-level details are on master, I will start doing the
C/GObject object mapping - this is probably going to take longer to bake
so maybe it won't make the next GLib release, maybe it will, depends.
