problem using the gtk_menu_tool_button

For the life of me I cannot get the label to display.

I have tried
~        gtk_menu_tool_button_new(tools_icon, "Tools");

~        setting the label manually (with gtk_tool_button_set_label(),
~        which I just found out is exactly when gtk_menu_tool_button_new()
~        does...

~        setting the label property.

I have ALSO tried:

	gtk_tool_item_set_is_important(button, TRUE);
	gtk_tool_item_set_visible_horizontal(button, TRUE);

and yet, in none of these cases, will the label display.

:(

I'm using gtk+-2.12.5 (Fedore 8)

Is this a bug that I should bugzilla, (or a known problem), or am I missing something?

Any thoughts ?
