FWIW, on both OSX and Vista, the rubberband shows up when one starts
to drag over any empty space. If one starts to drag with the pointer
on top of the text (in any column) or the icon then drag&drop for that
object is started. Both of them also start drag&drop when one starts
to drag on top of a selected row even if the pointer is over empty
space.
