I'm not sure exactly what you mean by this, but there are various things
that are hard to do in a "canvas item", like:
* GtkPlug/GtkSocket (or any form of out-of-process/toolkit embedding)
* Xv
* OpenGL
* Some forms of input methods (that require a window xid)
