Thanks for the bug pointer - though it does not explicitly talk about
the requirements for a docking widget.

Well, it's only used in anjuta(2), so it's not exactly "in teh wild".

OK - I'll try to come up with a intro document. The problem is that I'm
not the author of the code - rather an end-user. Nevertheless, I think I
can come up with something reasonable.
