Thanks for the advice on how to proceed.  I didn't realize it was a documented problem, nor that my first email was cited on the
bug report.  I'll try to stick links to my several followup posts on the bug report.  I'll see what I can do towards a solution
once I debug my problem with the focus grab primitives.
