This seems to work:
danw twelve-monkeys:~> libtool --config > /tmp/foo
danw twelve-monkeys:~> echo 'libdir= LIBDIR@' >> /tmp/foo
danw twelve-monkeys:~> echo 'echo `eval echo $hardcode_libdir_flag_spec`' >> /tmp/foo
danw twelve-monkeys:~> sh /tmp/foo
-Wl,--rpath -Wl,@LIBDIR@
It's probably possible to do this without creating a temp file...
