update and redraw a DrawingArea

Hello List !
I have a problem when a DrawingArea is updated (because it was hidden etc.)
Can anybody explain me how this is done correctly ?
In my case, when a DrawingArea is updated, the lines and boxes are
destroyed and not correctly redrawn.
