PyGObject: Spinner as content of a TreeView cell

Does anyone see a way to draw/insert a Gtk.Spinner (or any other
Gtk.Widget) in a cell of a Gtk.TreeView?
I want to use a Spinner to indicate to the user that currently there is
work (e. g. ongoing download) or activity with a specific item.
