Vscale and Spin Button size

I am looking into using GTK for an application using a touch screen 
interface and was wondering if there is an easy way to change the size 
of the slider object of a GtkVscale (or GtkHscale for that matter) and 
the size of the spin button arrow buttons.  Their current fixed size is 
not usable with a touch screen designed for finger control.  Similarly 
the size of scrollbars is problematic for this sort of application.
