My best advice is to read the GDB Manual -
http://www.gnu.org/software/gdb/documentation/. Chapters 4 and 5
should give you a fairly good idea how to perform simple debugging on
your program. If you don't feel like get some GUI debugger like
Insight (http://sources.redhat.com/insight/).
