display more information on GtkCalendar

I am new to GTK+, and I got a problem.
I want to display more information on GtkCalendar. To show it, I attached a
picture(a small one) on this message, thanks.
Should I
1. inherit from GtkCalendar, or
2. write a completely new Calendar widget myself?
