How to add a single button?

I am using GDK to draw some pictures and texts on a GtkWindow. At the same time, I want to add a button to 
the window. Should I use a container first and how can I use it by just adding one button? I had tested to 
add a GtkTable and insert a button to it. But then I could not draw the pictures and texts on it.
