If I undestood you concern about libvte, that is, if you think you need 
to run an application inside the vte, I can assure you that is not true. 
You can have a vte that does not run anything, and use the 
vte_terminal_feed() to add text to the terminal. It should similarly be 
possible to capture the user input in the vte, but I cannot say much 
about that because in my application I use vte's as output-only widgets.
