gnome date edit... why was it left out of GTK+?

Hello,

Anyone know what the matter is with gnome date edit being a gnome widget and
not a GTK+ widget. Why all this fuss? Because now I cannot use it under windows,
and there's nothing that looks special about it that should make it a _"GNOME"_
widget from what I can see. Qt and other toolkits have date edits, and
they don't
come with a big sign on them saying "I will not run under windows period".
So then all the windows users are left out. Some windows users are just
people that would like to use Linux software but do not have the time or
inclination to install Linux. I think we must make an effort to make widgets
available for windows whenever we can, without making them gnome
widgets for no good reason.

Best Regards,
