How to compile gtk1.2 with KDevelop

Hi,
Sorry if this seems like a stupid question, but I can't find any information on how to compile a GTK app
with KDevelop anywhere.
I can do it okay by putting `gtk-config --cflags` in project/projects options/configure options/CPPFlags
However now I want to distribute my app and when you try to build the source from the command line (using
./configure, make) it complains that it can't find gtk/gtk.h.
