At least I know that you are partially wrong ;-)

    Thing is, an application gets deployed knowing what libraries
it wants to link against, and, since 1.3.5/2.2.3 are actualy
part of the application name (not the --version:?:?:? from libtool)
the application will see it as two completely different libaries.

So thank gawd that LD_LIBRARY_PATH isn't just a heap of symbols
that damn well better be namespaced ;-D
