Well, what do you know!  I was looking at

  file:///usr/share/gnome/html/gnomeui/gnomeabout.html

There's nothing on that page, nor on its home page, that I can see to
indicate that it's for 1.2.  Guess that explains it...I was looking in the
1.2 docs instead of the 2.x docs.
