Hey Alf,
check out "The Official GNOME 2 Developer's Guide" by Matthias Warkus.
It's a great book for explaining how gtk is structured and covers a
lot of the APIs.
I think the original book was written in 2002 in German and was just
translated and printed here back in September of this year by No
Starch Press.
