gtk_widget_set_style works on gtk 1.2 version but not in 2.0 ?

hi guys i am trying to change the color(background) of
the "fixed" this works fine in gtk 1.2 but not 2.0
why. even i tried gtk_widget_modify_bg().  but its not
working.anybody have idea.
