Preventing scrollbars within top level window

Hi,

Sorry for the newbie question :)

I have created a simple application which has a top level window. Within 
this sits another widget which is actually larger than the top level 
window. This causes scrollbars to appear allowing the user to scroll 
around to see the rest of the widget. How can I disable this so that 
scrollbars do not automatically get added to the top level window?

Any help greatly appreciated.
