GtkGetMainWindow???

Is there a function that you can get the main window or basically ANY
widget without previously having one?

i.e.

In a GdkInputFunction, I need to add text to a GtkTextBuffer.
Unfortunately the user_data I am sending to it with a pointer to the
buffer isn't working well. Is there any way to get a pointer to the
GtkTextView widget without already having a pointer to any other widget
within that window?
