how to get iter from the GtkListStore?

hello

how can i get iter from the GtkListStore, when i have it's contents
(string for example), which is not of the GtkTreePath type?

i am doing this:
while( list )
        - append to list store
        - check, if appended is not wanted
                - if it is, select it

and i want to select the wanted row after appending to the list store,
and because of this i need to get iter by the concrete name
