gtgk2.2.0 install problem

 Folks,
 
 GTK2.2.0 errors:

checking for IceConnectionNumber in -lICE... yes
Package xft was not found in the pkg-config search path.
Perhaps you should add the directory containing `xft.pc'
to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable
No package 'xft' found.


  I searched for xft.pc and could not find it. Do I have to intall it on my
system ? If so, why isn't it listed on the dependencies dir?
 
 I have red-hat 7.3 -- XFree86 4.2
