default toolbar style

hi,
changing the gnome preferences affects the style of my toolbar
but wnen starting app the toolbar style is default unless i set it
otherwise

how can i make my app read the gnome default from the begining?

do i have to open gconf_vlient, read the
/desktop/gnome/preferences/toolbar_style key and set the toolbar
approrietely?

or is there a way to make it easier
