        I am not that knowledgeable in the internals of GTK+/GDK but one thing
that comes to mind is whether gtk/gdk was compiled with thread support.
I know that it has some threading support that needs to be compiled in
to make it thread-safe. Also take a look at gtk_exit(). From the
reference manual, it says that it shuts down GTK and return an error
code to the caller...

        May be some of the more experience and gtk-savy users/coders will be
able to help you. As far as the pthread code is conserned, I don't see
anything wrong...
