Query regarding libgenomecanvas

Hi
I am working with gtk1.2. I need an Item of GnomeCanvas of the type
"Rich-Text". In short, I am not able to create an item with type as
"gnome_canvas_rich_text_get_type()". Can any body tell me how will I do
that.  Do I need to make any up gradations with GTK or GNOME libraries.
