Downloading a file

Hi, in my GTK/GNOM app i wnat to download a file. i created a function
myself but is was verry buggy :) so i wanna know if there is a function
or library in GTK to download a file.
I heard about gnome-vfs-2. but the api reference only told things about
filesystems and nothing about downloading.
