autoconf/automake for detecting whether GNOME is installed

Hi,

I'm writing a GTK+ 2 application, and here I want to install a .desktop
file if the user has GNOME installed, but not if he hasn't. Has anyone
written a autoconf macro for this?

If not, how should it be accomplished?

It should work with both GNOME 1 and GNOME 2, since you arent required
to have GNOME 2 when using an GTK+ 2 application.
