Message abreviation in GtkStatusbar

Hi all,

I was wondering if is there a way to set a long text in a statusbar and it doesn't resize, even if it's 
needed.
What's happening that I'm makeing a small gui that can display not important messages that can be truncated 
to fit in the statusbar..
I set at the window widget allow_grow, handling_resize, nothing seems to work..
I looked at the API and didn't see anything promising..
So, how could I block the resize of the widget?
