Need help drawing lines

I'm tyring to draw a `dotted line' with each other pixel being a dot.
The problem is that I don't know what value to set the dash_offset to.

When I set dash_offset to 0 and the number of dashes to 2, I get a two
pixel long dash and then two pixels of emptyness.

However that's the best I can get, I still *want* to have 1 pixel on/off
dash instead of two pixel on/off.
What values should I set it to?
