Menus, GTK 1.2.10 and special characters

Hello,

I'm writing a GTK+ program, and I recently upgraded to gtk+-1.2.10 (debian
package) and the menu items containing Latin-1 characters (é, à, ...)
disapeared (empty strings).
If I run the same program (even the same dynmacally-linkeed binary) with
gtk+-1.2.9 it works fine.

Do you where this comes from?
