gtk-equivalent to XtAddEventHandler

Hello all,

I would like to know if there's an equivalent in gtk 
to XtAddEventHandler(). I saw the add_input, add_idle,
etc... related functions, but none about adding an
event handler.
Is there a such equivalent, or should I rewrite
the mainloop (if possible) ?
