Any hint about the reason why gthumb doesn't see videos even with gtksink installed?

I have these packages installed:

- libgstreamer-plugins-bad1.0-0

- gstreamer1.0-plugins-bad

- gstreamer1.0-plugins-bad-videoparsers

- gstreamer1.0-plugins-bad-faad

- gir1.2-gst-plugins-bad-1.0 

version is 1.8.3

gthumb can reproduce the video (running gthumb video.avi), but video.avi isn't shown in the browser

in version 3.4.2 "gtksink" is used to play videos, which is available in gst-plugins-bad.  However that exact name of the package depends on the distribution you use.
