Hi,
I think I had the same error quite some time ago with gthumb under gentoo. If I remember right, solution then was to install gsettings-desktop-schemas. 
As I don't know under which distro you are, I can't tell you the package name for your distro, but I suppose the name is similar.
At least under Debian and Redhat based distros the name seems to be the same.
Make sure to install at least version >=0.1.4.

Did you install gThumb using 'make install' ?
Of course (./autogen.sh --prefix=/opt, make, sudo make install under 
Ubuntu-1210). This error message appears when I start gthumb with 
/opt/bin/gthumb

/opt/bin/gthumb
(gthumb:17837): GLib-GIO-ERROR **: Settings schema 
'org.gnome.gthumb.browser' is not installed
