I have to review a large number of JPEGs and delete all but the good ones.
I can do this, currently, with gthumb, but the process is tedious and
sub-optimal. For each .JPG file to be deleted, it appears that I have
to perform all of the following steps, in sequence:
1) Using the mouse, click on (select) the desired image.
2) Reach my left hand over and hit the Delete key.
3) Wait for the confirmation dialog box to pop up and then
confirm that deletion of the file in question is indeed
desired.
Because I have a lot of image files to go through, this all becomes
very tedious very fast, and I would like to short-cut the process as
much as possible.
With regards to this, I have two questions/requests/suggestions:
First, I'd like to know if there is any way to get gthumb to _not_
ask for confirmation on every single file deletion. (I have backups of
all this stuff, so it's not like I am going to really lose anything if
I make a mistake and delete the wrong image file.) If gthumb currently
doesn't support any mode or option whereby file delete can be effected
_without_ an extra confirmation step, then I'd like to put in an
ehhancement request for exactly such a feature. (To be clear, I'll
be happy to have _any_ method of disabling the extra delete confirmation
step, even if it were to be something as inelegantas, say, an environment
variable, like, for example, CONFIRM_DELETE=no.)
Second, as I am going through all of these .JPG files, my right hand is
already on the mouse anyway, and it occurs to me that my middle mouse
button seems to produce only the exact same function (in gthumb) as my
left mouse button, i.e. just selecting the current image. Obviously,
there is no real or compelling need to dedicate _two_ mouse buttons to
the exact same functionality, so, you know, it really would be ultra Nice
if it were possible for the gthumb user to bind the middle mouse button
to some user-specified action... like for instance select-and-delete-file-
without-confirmation. Is it possible for a gthumb end user to customise
the functionality of the middle mouse button? If not, then I'd like to put
in a separate enhancement request for that exactly capability. (Even if
I could only customize the middle mouse button to select-and-delete-with-
confirmation, I would still be better off than I am now.)
Any, and all responses appreciated. (Please reply on list only to avoid
my goofy spam filters. Thanks.)
