AFAICS, we are not using this switch for anything in grilo.
To give some context, because it is not the first time that Victor
mentions this:
This option was added to support the future case of having an installed
version of grilo in your system and also a development version. This is
not a problem now because grilo does not install any data files, if it
did, however, the development version would load these data files from
the system and not from the development environment (this switch would
be the way to change the data path to use and point it to the source
code tree) If we remove the switch now and then we have the need for
this feature we will have to put it back, but at the moment it is
serving no purpose.
I think it is ok to remove the switch until it is really needed.
