I think this needs a fuller description:
http://library.gnome.org/devel/goocanvas/unstable/GooCanvasGrid.html#id2614859

I think there should be some explanation of this in the API
documentation. Maybe there is, but I can't find my way to it from, for
instance, here:
http://library.gnome.org/devel/goocanvas/unstable/GooCanvas.html#goo-canvas-get-static-root-item
Maybe that should just link to
http://library.gnome.org/devel/goocanvas/unstable/goocanvas-goocanvasitem.html#goo-canvas-item-get-is-static

I also looked at some other newish functions:

I think that this documentation should make it clearer that the bounds
parameter is both an in and out parameter, if it is:
http://library.gnome.org/devel/goocanvas/unstable/GooCanvas.html#goo-canvas-convert-bounds-to-item-space

I think that the difference (if any) between these two functions should
be made clear:
http://library.gnome.org/devel/goocanvas/unstable/GooCanvas.html#goo-canvas-request-redraw
http://library.gnome.org/devel/goocanvas/unstable/GooCanvas.html#goo-canvas-request-item-redraw
