Gnumeric does have a "New form Template" which opens a copy of a
template file. You can use that to preset things like default cell formats.

The default for that is always "General". When you open a blank
workbook, we do not load a file.

Morten,
Thanks and noted.
The one thing that I'd like to do that you don't mention is being able
to set the number format for all cells in the book. Maybe other things
too.
Is this possible?
I had a vague memory (rapidly age failing) that it was possible somehow
to modify the default template that appears when you open a new book
("Book1.gnumeric"). In fact my present default shows signs of having
had some previous input by me. The problem is I can't remember how I
achieved this.

You can set a couple of things such as default font and sheet size in
Edit->Preferences.

I've searched all that I can, but can't find the answer.
How do I change the properties of the default Gnumeric template?
That is to say, how can I change the format of cells, font size etc
of any new workbook that I open?
Thanks in advance.
