repeat an fill in data

Hello,

I could easily repeat data to "down" (ctrl + D) and right (ctrl + R), now
how can I fill-in logical data ? For instant write "1" in the first cell,
and fill all other cells beneath with 2, 3, 4 ... n ? or dates like
1/01/2012, 2/01/2012, 3/01/2012 .... 2013, 2014...  ?
