box entitled plot type is empty - insert chart function

I have installed gnumeric (version 1.8.4) in a Fedora 11 box. I
encounter the following problem. When I try to draw a chat, there is not
any chart type in the box entitled plot type and therefore it is not
possible to draw any chart

Any help on this is very much appreciated.
