At this time (as of 1.9.7) bold and italic settings are only exported if
they are attached to the whole cell. (Select the cell and without
editing it click on the bold or italic button.)

Character specific formatting within a cell is at this time not
exported. If you need this please file a bug report at
bugzilla.gnome.org.
