thanks... the link is very helpful

"git clone" and "git pull" seem to be getting the job done...  i'm up
& running again with the latest code

as an aside, one thing i noticed when using a brand new install of
ubuntu 9.04 was that there's a dependency on yacc that doesn't seem to
be caught very early...  sorry, but i don't remember which of libgsf,
goffice or gnumeric requires it
