Sounds like a problem with the OLE2 container file.
E Unable to open module file "/usr/lib/gnumeric/1.8.3/plugins/psiconv/psiconv".
E libpsiconv.so.6: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
This is odd. You shouldn't be falling into there at all with an
xls file. It is probably supressable by disabling the psiconv
plugin from the plugin manager.
