pkg-config --modversion glib-2.0
2.14.3
in other words, I am up-to-date. YAST thinks I am still on 2.14.1 because I installed the latest glib from source.
/usr/lib/ligblib has the latest version though and I did run ldconfig.
I feel I am still no step closer to resolving this issue....
Any more suggestions?

I suspect you need a newer version of glib2-dev (or whatever it's
called). What does
pkg-config --modversion glib-2.0
say? Here it says "2.14.1" (that's on Ubuntu 7.10). Anything
less than 2.12.N is presumably too old.
