in the print preview dialog, zoom minus acts the same as zoom *

If I press '*', nothing happens. '-' zooms in, '+' zooms out. What
exactly is your problem?

The '*' was a typo, sorry. It should be a '+'

The problem is both '+' and '-' do the same increasing size of the
preview and none of them decreases it.
This happens the same via keyboard than via the icons on top.

I've done more trys and this only happens on my main box. Tryed
different windowmanagers and have the same problem in fvwm2
enlightenment and metacity.

Running the same gnumeric binary on the same box and displaying it in
another box via ssh, things go right.
'+' increases the preview and '-' decreases it as expected.

Xservers are the same version on both boxes
X Window System Version 6.8.2 (Debian 6.8.2.dfsg.1-5 20050810052028
***** at squee.verizon.net)

What more can I check/try?

Sounds like your keyboard may be configured strangely. Try using
xev to see what events ctrl-+ and ctrl-- are sending.

You only mention that it happens with + and -. Do you have the same
effect with ctrl-+ and ctrl--?
