The charting engine

Hi
I might be starting a new project where I'm going to need to create 
different kinds of plots. So I would like to look at the charting engine 
used in gnumeric, but I can't figure out what engine you're using. 
Looking at the faq at the website tells me that gnumeric uses a "new 
charting engine".

So I guess my question is how do I get my hands on the charting engine?
